    But what is your position if you need to make an insurance claim?

    Car insurers reported a dramatic rise in claims yesterday, as motorists suffered prangs or worse, while thousands of travellers found flights cancelled and some property owners will have had homes damaged by the cold snap.
    AA Insurance said that it saw a 30% rise in car claims by 10am on Monday morning, while Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Luton, Stansted, Southampton and Birmingham airports were closed for all or part of the day.

    Nick Starling, of the Association of British Insurers, said: ‘Severe weather conditions cause great disruption and inconvenience, and insurance is there to help soften the blow.

    ‘People who have suffered flight delays or damage to their home or vehicle due to the weather should contact their insurance company for advice.’
